"Fuck me, Taito didn't develop Monkey Puncher?"

The Works of
Atelier Double

Founded in 1986 and employing 50 people as of 2004, Atelier Double (roughly translating from French as "Double Atelier") is one of the more interesting developers I've come across in my attempts to document D3's Simple series. Most of them have developed a few games outside of the series - generally obscure dating games, random PS1 titles or mobile shite - but Atelier Double is different. They have a history of Tose-like ninja developing dating back to 1987, producing games for the likes of Square Enix, Konami, Sony, Taito and Pony Canyon without a great many people ever knowing about it. Admittedly their back catalogue isn't quite as interesting or as extensive as Tose's, but it does cover a few titles I was pretty damned surprised to find weren't developed by the company I'd always thought they were developed by. As well as a lot of Ranma and snowboarding.

They have a website (domain since sold) which seems to have been neutered somewhat - all the links have been removed, and the works pages taken down entirely, so I don't know what's going on. Maybe they went out of business, maybe a client didn't want their involvement made public, maybe they're following Tose's lead, who knows. Anyway, thanks to the archive, I have retrieved the missing pages and now know the full extent of their involvement in... stuff. At least the stuff they'd admit to. So here it is!

Note -- the following is translated directly from Atelier Double's former website. All errors have been left in, on the possibility they were intentional or something. Of course, any additional errors resulting from my translation weren't intentional. Or something.

So, that's Atelier Double. Extra bonus note: according to Moby Games they did the sound in Umihara Kawase as well. Oh, and I have reason to suspect "Sports Action Game" of 2002 may in fact be Konami's Evolution Skateboarding, but don't hold me to that.

* I assume this is supposed to be "Imagineer" - how it appears in the table is actually how it was written in Japanese
